I'll never forget when he was talking about Hannibal and trying to get the listener to imagine what it must have been like to be a Roman in that battle, how many were driven insane at the carnage and literally buried their heads in the ground, etc. It's easy to get lost in the dry statistics and maneuvers. The listener is left to connect the dots and see everything lost to a generation in the Great War.
